Brian's "Picture of the Week"

IMAGE: Yosemite

Yosemite National Park [Park]. Clearly visible (center left) is “Half Dome” [info] [hike1] [hike2], a 2695m barren granite dome towing prominently on the northeast side of the famous Yosemite Valley [info] [web-cam]. Photographed while airborne at 39,000 feet looking south down Tenaya Canyon from Tenaya Lake (forward left) towards Half Dome, where it joins the Yosemite Valley and follows the Merced River westward (upper right). Also visible is the shallow side of “El Capitan” [info] [climb]  (upper far right), known by rock climbers worldwide for its shear vertical cliff. This spectacular scenery was carved from ancient glaciers during the ice age. Map N37.7, W119.5 [Map]. Photo: Saturday 16 September 2006 12:26 PDT . [800x600]
